Behind the scenes, Heartstrings Maid Cafe makes sure to take care of everything that might be involved with running a maid cafe; all the food, drinks, serving items, outfits, decorations, promotional materials, and of course, the maids, were all organized by Heartstrings. Because FreeCon is an entirely free convention run by students, they are willing to work with our circumstances regarding FSU’s rules and still provide an amazing event. Although they were restricted to only using approved FSU food vendors, which didn’t come without any issues, they were able to adapt at a moment’s notice and deviate from their normal homemade menu.

Because of our small budget, Heartstrings has provided an amazing service to us with the only costs being payment of the food and event space, saving us hundreds of dollars that we are able to put back into making FreeCon even better. Additionally, Heartstrings is always willing to negotiate budget costs making the process much less taxing. Despite our tight budget constraints, they always bring their A-game and put on a fantastic event; we have never been concerned about their ability to put on a great event.

Since FreeCon 19, we’ve been lucky enough to host Heartstrings and have had consistent lines out the door, waiting for their turn to enjoy the cafe. Multiple guests often expressed their interest in attending the maid cafe at registration; even our own Volunteers were excited to possibly attend! We’ve heard nothing but raving reviews from those who have attended the maid cafe, with a handful of attendees returning each year just for the maid cafe since FreeCon 19. At FreeCon 21, the maid cafe had a full house every session. Out of the 2,700 attendees we had for FreeCon 21, a significant portion went to enjoy Heartstrings. Even with having four hour-long sessions for both Saturday and Sunday, we know that a good portion of attendees were not able to make it into the exclusive event.

A hit event that is sure to draw crowds, we couldn’t have been more grateful to have Heartstrings Maid Cafe as a staple of our convention. Especially with so many activities that take place during a convention, it is extremely reassuring to know that Heartstrings is able to run the maid cafe smoothly with little to no assistance from FreeCon 21 Staff or Volunteers. Heartstrings provided all their own equipment, and even managed to run a successful event with only a small timeframe to set-up (2 hours) and take-down (1 hour). Despite any issues that may arise on the fly, Heartstrings is more than qualified to handle any problems, is very quick in their response time, and incredibly accommodating. They are a dependable group that know how to operate a wonderful, wholesome event.
