Heartstrings Maid Cafe

Freecon 2024 has officially wrapped and what an event this turned out to be! JACT, Freecon’s organizers, moved the maid cafe out from the top most floor in one of the event rooms to Club Down Under. This move allowed us to serve much greater numbers of our masters and princesses. For two days, the maids and butlers of the Heartstrings Maid Cafe met unprecedented numbers of our masters and princesses. We never expected to see such enormous lines outside our doors but were so thankful to all of our incredibly patient patrons for sticking with us as we sorted things out.

If you visited us Sunday, you might have noticed a little Easter egg hunt happening in the cafe. We hid lots of little eggs around the cafe for patrons to find. If you found one you could turn it in to your maid for a little candy prize! You might also have seen some special decorations like our new “employee” Tyler. (seen below)

The Heartstrings Maid Cafe also featured our very first stand alone stage show–The Heartstrings Sampler. This performance was attended by over 100 people, wow!

The energy of the crowd was absolutely infectious. Aside from dancing, between every few songs some of the cast would come on stage to talk to the audience about special elements of live performances like “wotagei”, a specific kind of cheering used at idol shows. Despite most of the crowd being unfamiliar to start with, everyone seemed to catch on really quick! By the end, some members of the audience we holding up their phones with images of the performers color to simulate light sticks and show support for their favorite dancer!

After the show, we set aside some time for our guests to come up to the stage and take pictures with our performing maids. We received so much love and the line was so long, we almost ran late for the session after the concert! We were so deeply touched by all the love and support our show received, we can’t thank our goshujin-sama and ojou-sama enough! We loved putting on the sampler, and hope to do it again at our next event. See you again soon!
